October Chill

Coat:  Banana Republic ~ Jeans:  J.Crew ~ Top:  Forever 21 ~ Shoes:  Target
Necklace:  J.Crew ~ Ring:  David Yurman

This trench coat is an oldie but a goodie, and is perfect for the crisp weather we've been experiencing.  It is easy to throw over anything, but I am partial to pairing it with neutrals and a pop of color.  I returned from my weekend in Asheville on Monday, and I have to say I am a little grateful for our mild Tennessee weather.  The colors on the trees were gorgeous, but the chill reminded me I'm not quite ready for wool sweaters.  I hope you are enjoying October as much as I am.

100 posts later

Dress:  Ellison ~ Coat:  J.Crew thrift store find ~ Booties:  Diba ~ Sweater:  J.Crew Factory ~ Earrings:  Kate Spade ~ Rings:  Family Heirlooms

Ladies and gentleman I can't even believe it, but I am SO excited to announce this is my 100th blog post! My oh my how things have changed.  You want proof?  Go to my very first post and that should provide you with enough entertainment for the day.  Okay now I'm just poking fun at myself.  I truly am proud of every single post, some better than others, but I feel it is a perfect representation of how much I have grown and changed over the past two years.  Hair length and style for sure, but so much more than that.  I started this blog as a way to express my creativity and, I'm going to toot my own horn here, but I am incredibly proud of how much I've put into this project.  I can't thank my readers enough for encouraging me, challenging me, and simply reading along every week.  From posts about apple pie recipes to how to take a leap of faith, my heart and soul have been poured into every post.  I know I make mistakes (I'm not an English major), but these pages are who I am.  If you have been with me from the beginning, thank you.  If this is the first time ever visiting my blog, welcome...and I promise I'm not always this emotional!  Here's to 100 and to 100 more!

Fall Favorites

Untitled #1

1.  Somehow Mindy Kaling entered into the mind of every girl and wrote a book we all can relate to.  I didn't think she could beat her last book, Why is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, but the queen of sass did.  I can't explain it...but the girl just gets it.

2.  This summer I watched Age of Adaline, and since then I haven't been able to get her wardrobe out of my head...especially the pair of black loafers she wears.  The 60's and 70's have been the vibe this fall, making my love for these shoes so appropriate.

3.  White Barn candle company just gets it.  We love flannels on our why not capture the essence in a candle?  I have {literally} burned through mine, and I am already wanting another.  Trust me this is your new favorite fall is essentially a fall man wrapped in candle.

4.  While Barbour tends to be on more of the expensive side, it is well worth the purchase.  I actually ended up buying mine on accident when I under packed for a weekend trip to Scotland this summer while abroad.  Yes my purchase was not intended, but buyers remorse has been the last thing on my mind.  The quality and color is so timeless I have a feeling this jacket will take me very far.

5.  It seems like every retail store has their own version of this skirt, and I love it.  So 70's and sassy, it brings a new (necessary) twist on the jean skirt.

Flannel Season

Flannel:  J.Crew ~ Top:  Zara ~ Jeans:  J.Crew ~ Shoes:  Converse ~ Sunnies:  Ray Ban

Happy Thursday friends!  Wow,  these weeks really do seem to be flying by, and it makes me a little sad. Fall is the best so I'm trying to take in every moment, but thats hard to do when life keeps getting in the way!  In the past week I've had three exams, one paper, and too many quizzes and hw problems to count.  Fall may be in full swing but so is school, but thats what the weekend is for right?  Grape stomping with the roomies was so fun (see last post).  We also went to a bluegrass festival, and we danced our little hearts out.  I've also been reading a lot lately.  I just finished Mindy Kaling's new book (soon good) and I am about to start the Outlander series.  I honestly know nothing about them but the ladies at work keep talking about how addictive they are.

As soon as the first day of fall hits I immediately pull out my flannels.  This one was my go to from last year, and it is still working its magic.  I like this one, as opposed to my others that are from the men's section, because it is a little more fitted.  This is a really comfy outfit to run errands in or even have lunch with your friends.  This red plaid is also really fun to pattern mix with. Classic flannel, tee, jeans, and just can't go wrong!

The Great Grape Stomp

One thing that I love so much about fall is all of the fun activities.  This past weekend my roommates and I took a trip to the Georgia Winery to participate in the annual grape stomp.  For $10 you are given a glass of wine (of your choosing) and are able to stomp all the grapes your heart desires.  The weather did not want to cooperate, It rained all day, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time.  Our inner child came out as we danced in the rained and tried out different stomping techniques…most of them resulting in falling.  It was the perfect fall day with the perfect set of friends.  When I stop and think how much has changed over the past year I am honestly in awe.

One year ago I met my roommate ella at a friends birthday party and we ended up dancing together.  Flash forward and we are now roommates and dear friends.  God’s timing is really amazing and the way he brings people in and out of our lives is even more amazing.  I am so grateful for these three gals.  They are such a light in my life everyday and they always challenge me to be a better person.  Community is such a valuable component of life and I am so giddy that I get to delight in that with them.

Porch Pumpkins

Jacket:  J.Crew ~ Skirt:  J.Crew Factory ~ Boots:  Marti & Liz ~ Turtle Neck:  J.Crew ~ Ring:  David Yurman

Mid terms, work, and illness...oh my!  I feel like whenever I have a bad day it can't just be one little thing that spoiled it.  No when I have a frustrating day I feel like the whole world gets together and decides,"Hey what can we throw at her next?".  Yesterday was that day for me.  I've been scrambling to study for the multitude of midterms this week, my allergies have decided to hang out leaving me exhausted and achy, and to seal the deal I shattered my phone on the side walk.  By the time I made it home I could feel the tears begin to well up in the back of my eyes...this day had defeated me.  On days like that it is really hard for me not to pull the "why me?" card.  Why am I not as smart as that girl?  Why can't I take care of my things?  Why isn't my life going like that?  One bad day can send my mind completely out of proportion and begin to question every good thing in my life, and that is just bananas!  If I have realized anything this year it is that God has blessed me so much.  Who am I to bash all of that in one afternoon?  He distinctly created each an everyone of us to be different.  We have different strengths and weaknesses, different passions and personalities, and I for one am grateful for that.  So many times I look at differences as a bad thing but in reality thats what makes life so interesting and beautiful.  Be grateful for the life and attributes God gave you because it was designed specifically for you!  Tomorrow is a new day with new challenges.  Pick yourself up off of the ground, put a smile on your face, and know you are loved every single day by the creator himself.  No terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day can ever take that away from you.

At the beginning of each season I always enjoy pulling out my clothes and seeing how new purchases can be incorporated into current outfits.  I bought this jacket and turtle neck from J.Crew the other day and I was so excited to pair it with this wool skirt I purchased many years ago.  I hope everyone is having a great week!
