The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Dress:  Merch Boutique ~ Necklace:  Charming Charlie's ~ Earrings:  Francesca's
Watch:  Forever 21 ~ Shoes:  Talbots

This past week was spring break and I defiantly got some much needed rest (and some even more needed sun)!  I've mentioned in past posts how much I love the ocean.  It is a giant mystery to me. How it can be so terrifying and peaceful all at the same time amazes me.  To one day live by the sea would truly be a dream.  I'd start and end each day by gazing out unto it's glimmering waters. I'd close my eyes and listen to the symphony of waves.  Oh my goodness, and to wear sandals again was just the best!  I pulled this bright little number out one night for dinner and couldn't resist taking a few pictures on the beach.  I love that the dress has hints of turquoise along with the navy and yellow.  They make such a fun summery combination.  I wanted to make the colors stand out more so I added this awesome beaded necklace and gold accents.  Beachwear is the best (not to mention beach hair) and I will truly miss it.

It was a very memorable and fun trip, but I am happy to be back at home.  We have just five weeks left of school and I feel energized and excited to finish them out strong.  In just 9 short weeks I will be hopping on a plane to temporarily move to Italy, and that just doesn't seem real. I am incredibly overwhelmed with the preparation but my excitement has me pushing through it.  It has been an academically challenging semester for me but my trip is the little light at the end of the tunnel.  No matter how you are feeling about the semester just know that little light is there, and on the other side an amazing summer awaits!  I hope you all had an amazing spring break, and I wish you all the best during the last few weeks of school!

Highlights: Girl Power Edition

In honor of International Women's Day on Sunday, This edition of Highlights is all about women empowerment.

International Women's Day
This time last year I was wondering around the streets of Venice when a sweet little Italian woman handed me a beautiful yellow flower.  After some research I discovered that it was International Women's Day. The flower was a  Mimosa flower, traditionally handed out to woman in celebration of the day.  What a beautiful tradition!  The canals and streets are filled with yellow in honor of women everywhere.  We still have a ways to go, but my oh my we've come a long way, and that is worth celebrating.  March 8th make sure you remember!

Jamie Brewer in NYFW
New York fashion week was filled with fall's upcoming trends.  The 70's are coming back, orange is every where, and not to mention fur and fringe.  But perhaps the most buzzed about trend was American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer walking in Carrie Hammer's show.  The Down Syndrome actress commented,"Young girls and even young women...[see me] and say ‘hey, if she can do it so can I,'". Brewer, who has also worked as an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, told Today. "It's a true inspiration being a role model for any young women to [encourage them] in being who they are and showing who they are."  GIRL POWER.

Plus Size Model Take Over
Robyn Lawley has been in the media a lot recently for being the first plus sized model ever to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  Personally I'm not  a huge fan of the magazine, but I love what this stands for.  Robyn spends a lot of her time promoting positive body image to girls everywhere.  Her main point is that you are born with your body, so love it and be good to it.  Plus sized modeling has always been a separate entity and I think now we will be seeing a lot more integration.  I think this is a huge step for the industry, and I'd like to see them moving more in that direction.
Okay we are all familiar with the oh so adorable Zooey Deschanel.  What you might not know is that she has an entire website devoted to positive entertainment.  Hello Giggles has created an online community for women to encourage, inspire, and learn from one another with out negative influence.  The site has everything from DIY projects to a live streaming of puppies playing.  As girls we spend so much time talking about others and not feeling good enough.  This community is a place to turn away from all damaging emotions and just enjoy a drama free space.
