Snow Day

Coat:  Old Navy ~ Sweater:  J.Crew Factory ~ Pixie Pants:  J.Crew ~ Boots:  L.L. Bean ~ Lipstick:  NYX ~ Necklace:  J.Crew Factory ~ Socks:  Forever 21 ~ Earrings:  Kate Spade

Chilly days have been in our forecast lately and don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.  Cozy sweaters, like this oversized turtle neck, help give the day a little warmth.  Snow came to Chattanooga last weekend and Sydney just happened to be in town, so of course we had some fun taking pictures in it!  Patten Chapel is one of my favorite places on campus and the snow made it even dreamier than it already is. Not going to lie, we may have pretended we were at Hogwarts.  I hope you are enjoying your day wherever you are!  As for me I will be cozy in my PJ's enjoying yet another snow day here in Chattanooga!

Baby It's Cold Outside

Sweater:  J.Crew ~ Earrings:  Kate Spade ~ Necklace:  Family Heirloom ~ Shirt:  J.Crew ~ Booties:  Old Navy ~ Jeans:  J.Crew ~ Rings:  Family Heirloom ~ Bag:  Coach ~ Watch:  Forever 21

It has been unbearably cold in Chattanooga lately, therefore all I want to do is bundle up.  Lets be honest the cold air sucks but at least it gives us an excuse to wear Fair Isle, and this sweater has become my favorite.  I love wool but I can't wear it without something underneath since my skin is so sensitive.  This longer button up does the job and I love the exaggerated length. In my opinion it really updates the classic preppy combination. Lately I have been very into gold statement pieces like this gold watch and pendent.  Variations of what I'm wearing are sold in almost every retail store and are a great way to finish a preppy look.

I hope that all of you are finding ways to stay warm this week.  This time of year can be stressful so take a breather, drink some hot cocoa, and take a nap because you deserve it.  Unfortunately we still have a few more weeks of this dreadful weather, but thats not going to stop me from dreaming of tan lines and longer days!

The Day of Love

Valentine's day is on Saturday so I wanted to do a little fun Valentine's day outfit.  Unfortunately I feel like I have been hit by the plague this week, and I was not up for taking pictures of myself.  But baking however, baking I can do!  I found these adorable cookie cutters at work and just had to do something for the blog.  This is my favorite cookie dough from one of our local grocery stores in Chattanooga, but they can easily be made from the recipe below.

Ingredients

2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 5-ounce package dried cranberries
2/3 cup white chocolate chunks or chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 375ºF.

Using an electric mixer, beat butter or margarine and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs, mixing well. Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt in a separate mixing bowl. Add to butter mixture in several additions, mixing well after each addition. Stir in dried cranberries and white chocolate chunks.

Flatten out and place cutter over the dough.  Place on sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack.

Lets talk cupid day for a second.  The roses, the heart shaped everything, the romance, it is really hard to feel awesome about yourself if you are single on a holiday like this one.  I want to shed some light on something though.  Everyone and I mean everyone has some form of love in their life.  A mother, a father, a friend, a pastor, maybe even a dog!  Regardless of the type of love, it is there whether we choose to accept it or not.  Saturday is all about celebrating the love in your life so I've put together a list , told by Parks and Recreation, of how you can enjoy V-Day even if you are single.

1.  Galentine's (or Broentine's) Day
Get al your girls (bro's) together and celebrate your friendship!  Go to brunch, rent a movie, do what ever you and your clique love to do.  If you have any question about this one just head over to the Netflix and let Leslie Knope give you the 411.

2.  Treat Yo Self
Think about your favorite place to be or your favorite thing to do and make it happen!  If you love hiking then spend the whole day loving the outdoors.  If you love to shop, shop away my friend!  Be kind to yourself, you deserve it!  Presonally I will be ordering a pizza and having a Shonda Rhimes marathon and I couldn't be more excited!
3.  Reminisce
Pull out your old photo albums and journals and look back at some good times in your life.  It's not healthy to live in the past but every once in a while its really nice to remember all the laughs and memories you've made.
4.  Have a Mini Dance Party (even if it's just you)
Crank up Rihanna's S.O.S. and dance it out my friends.  Who says a dance party has to be with more than one person?  No one is around so bust a move you freaky dancers.
5.  If anything else just remember grocery stores will have discount candy for the next two weeks!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Confessions of Tyler and Gina

When I was twelve years old there was this girl that I went to school with that seemed so cool. One day she showed up at my house because her little sister was taking violin lessons from my dad. I mustered up the courage and walked right up to her and complimented her hot pink and green pajama pants. Flash forward eight years and Rebekah still remains my dearest friend.  Over the years we've changed tremendously but at the end of the day she is always my right hand man.  We can go months without talking to each other but can pick right back up where we left off, like no time has passed at all.  We know each others fears, dreams, and what really makes us get out of bed in the morning.  From holding my hand as I sobbed on my bedroom floor to choreographing dance routines to Pop Goes My Heart, Rebekah has always ben there for me.  Growing up with her was awesome.  Every moment was an adventure, and we were smart enough to journal most of it.  When we were in the seventh grade Beck and I had opposite class schedules so we never saw each other, but that didn't stop us.  We started a secret journal (pictured above in hot pink and black duct tape) just for the two of us that we would pass to one another between classes.  Every person we knew had a code name just in case someone were to ever read the book, even we had code names.  I was Tyler and she was Gina so we titled the book, Confessions of Tyler and Gina.  Don't ask me how we landed on those names because neither of us truly remembers.  I will say, the name Gina still remains a term of endearment. The journal contains a look into some of the most awkward years of our lives.  It includes pictures, actual quotes, and many entertaining stories.  It is truly a treasure.

I am sad but excited to announce that my dear friend is moving to California for the semester.    So on the eve of her departure we felt it was only necessary to break out the ole book and give it a good read through (along with our go to snacks peach rings and salt and vinegar chips.  Many nights were spent eating these snacks and watching Pride and Prejudice).  Within the pages lies two truly emotional teenage girls (I was a J.Crew Soul trapped in a Pac Sun body) and it is hard to read without cringing sometimes. But it is so special to read how our friendship blossomed. We became the women we are today through those words.  Every naive mistake, heartbreak, excitement, inside joke, big event is cataloged into these pages.  I wouldn't have wanted to grow up with anyone but her and I thank God for our friendship. This is going to be an amazing adventure for her.  Although I am sad that my friend will not be a quick drive away, I am so excited to see how this new experience impacts her life.
