A Cheerful Giver

Top:  J.Crew ~ Skirt:  J.Crew ~ Shoes:  Nine West ~ Necklace:  Francesca's ~ lipstick:  NYX

The weather can't seem to make up its mind and i'll be honest, it's got me in a funk.  I either need it to be really warm and sunny so I can get some (much needed) vitamin D, or be a winter wonderland so I can make a snowman.  It has made me so over this month, and to make matters worse February is next week...ughh.  School is hard, nothing truly exciting is happening right now, and I think if I get any paler Casper won't even like me.  Could I be more of a Debbie Downer right now??  I'm telling you it's the season of dull that is bringing me down.  I'm going home this weekend to get a change of scenery so hopefully I will be back to my (sort of) cheery self by Monday.  Just in time for my stats test...wooo (seriously what is wrong with me!?)

It's in times like this I need to remind myself to have a cheerful heart.  2 Corinthians 9:7 says "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."  I immediately relate this verse to tithing, but I think it can also be applied to our time.  I don't think God wants us going through the motions everyday just waiting for something better to come along.  No, I believe that he wants us to rejoice and be thankful in all that we do.  Every day is a gift and we should use that to further His kingdom.  So yes January feels long, and lets be honest February will feel longer, but we have such a beautiful gift that we should be happy to share everyday.

So if you are like me and kind of feel bleh or ugh, just remember, yes sunny days are around the corner, but today is just as beautiful because we get to be apart of the creator's incredible experiment called life.  Everyday might not feel like it, but it is an adventure.  So open your eyes and explore today's adventure.  admire the trees, smile at your neighbor, or listen to music.  Do what ever it is that helps you to open your eyes.

Weekend in Knoxville

Since freshman year of high school these girls have had my back.  Through thick and thin we've been through it all together, and I'm proud to say they've stayed my closest friends.  We all went our separate ways after graduation, but still keep in constant communication thanks to group texts and weekend trips.  This past weekend happened to be one of them!  Katie drove up Friday night, stayed with me in Chattanooga, then Saturday morning we drove up to Knoxville to stay with the remainder of our posse.

Saturday night we ate at this super great Mexican place, Oscar's, and got Cook Out milkshakes to go. We played Cards Against Humanity and caught up on each theres lives (there also may or may not have been a dance battle).  The next morning I woke to Jaci in the middle of her morning devotion and Katie finishing up some homework.  I love observing these moments. Even something as simple as a morning routine gives me just the finest of a glimpse into their current lives.  After enjoying a lovely breakfast that Sydney prepared, we set out for the day.  We all ended up dressing in light denim for some reason so of course we had to take many 90's inspired group pic's.  After the photo op we received the grand tour of Knoxville, including the University and a very beautiful garden.  Then around two we hit the highway in search of an adventure.

An adventure was the form of a drive-thru zoo.  Honestly I didn't even know those existed, but boy am I glad they do.  Emotions ranged from panic to jubilation as we drove through the 30 minute zoo.  Screams and laughter could be heard for miles away and many memories were made. Just a few to name:  Katie's parking pass falling out the window, getting licked by a cow, three donkeys coming through the window at the same time, and getting slobbered on by a massive pig.

After the zoo adventure we drove to The Quarry (last post) and although it was too cold to swim, we did get there right at sunset.  The colors were so incredibly beautiful.  Yellow blue and orange all entwined to create such a beautiful masterpiece of a sky.  After our eventful day we headed back to their apartment for dinner.  Some of their friends from school joined us and many stories, old and new, were passed around.  New friends were made and stomach's were filled.  Their friends left and then it was just us.

As much as I tried to enjoy it, I felt so melancholy for the remainder of the evening.  How rare is it to find a group of individuals that accept every fiber of your being.  Existing with one another is like breathing, never to second guess yourself or worry if they will fail you.  I feel so lucky to have found a group of strong, beautiful, loving, and truly accepting women.  The next morning was very hard to leave them, I may have shed a tear or two.  Although it is sad at times, I feel so lucky to have found these amazing people to do life with.  Life is too short and ugly not to have laughter and love fill the empty spaces with.  I look forward to our next adventure together, but until then three cheers for technology!

Tee:  J.Crew ~ Chambray:  J.Crew Factory ~ Jeans:  J.Crew ~ Necklace:  Forever 21 ~ Nikes:  J.Crew Socks:  Forever 21 ~ Tote:  J.Crew ~ Watch:  Parker Quartz

I've been eyeing these Nike's since I started my job at J.Crew.  With the sneaker movement integrating itself into fashion more and more, I felt these were a must.  Super comfy and very cool I have defiantly not fallen victim to buyer's remorse.  They come in several different colors, but I tend to be more practical with purchases like this.  I wear a lot of blue and brown so I knew the olive colored one's would be a safe bet.  From Vans to Nike and even the surprising comeback of New Balance, sneakers have taken over the fashion community.  More and more NYFW collections are featuring sneakers, even on the runway, and it makes me very happy.   I've even heard rumors that Kate Spade will be collaborating with New Balance in February.  What ever your style is, I think we can all let out a huge hip hip hooray for the sneaker movement!

This weekend I took a trip up to Knoxville to visit with some of my friends.  We all went to high school together but went our separate ways after graduation. To this day they still remain my closest friends, therefore trips such as this one are a must.  It was defiantly one for the books, so be sure to read all about it in tomorrow's post.

Mood Booster

Top:  Anthropologie ~ Pixie Pants:  J.Crew ~ Flats:  Steve Madden ~ Earrings:  Francesca's ~ Necklace:  J.Crew Factory

It has been particularly gray these past few days in Chattanooga, and my mood has defiantly been  effected by it.  Some quick mood boosters for me have been exercising, warm cups of coffee, and incorporating brighter colors into my wardrobe.  I found this cute textured top on sale at Anthropologie, and it has quickly become one of my go to tops.  Wearing little fun tops like this one is an easy way to incorporate color and a little femininity into your wardrobe this winter season.  Some other ways you could include fun into your wardrobe are wearing brighter lip sticks, fun socks, and patterned scarves.  I hope you all are having a great week!

Gowns of The Golden Globes

The Golden Globe Awards are probably my favorite red carpet event of the year.  The reason probably being that the gowns always tend to be very classic and elegant.  There are so many talented people confined to one room and they all seem to show up in their best!  I've picked a few of my favorite looks from the night.

Reese Witherspoon:  Calvin klein
Claire Danes:  Valentino
Salma Hayek:  Alexander McQueen
Emma Stone:  Lanvin
Kate Beckinsale:  Elie Saab
Anna Kendrick:  Monique Lhuillier
Felicity Jones:  Christian Dior Couture
Allison William:  Armani Prive
Diane Kruger:  Emilia Wickstead
Amy Adams:  Atelier Versace
Francess O'connor
And my favorite from the evening,

Julianne Moore:  Custom Givenchy

I mentioned in yesterdays post that I would be starting a new series featuring people, places, and things that interest me enough to share with you!  Without further adieu, I give you highlights!

While my brother was in town for Christmas he introduced me to the podcast Serial.  Now I'll tell you straight up I am not typically the podcast type, but after just one episode I was hooked.  With having more plays than Breaking Bad, Serial has made history for being the number one  podcast in history.  The nonfiction story centers around the  murder of high school senior Hae Min Lee in Baltimore 1999.  Her ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed, is arrested and charged for the murder.  Adnan pleads not guilty, but for some reason can't seem to get his story straight.  However the story working against Adnan, told by classmate Jay, doesn't quite add up either.  Reporter for This American Life, Sarah Koenig, investigates the case in search of the truth.  This twelve episode series is filled with many twists and turns and is a great way to pass the time if you are traveling!  Click the link below to download the whole series for free and listen to it on the go!

Lilly For Target

Target is famous for their big collaborations. Names in the past have included Neiman Marcus, Phillip Lim, Zac Posen, and a record breaking collection from Missoni that sold out in a matter of hours.  Fashion enthusiasts will be excited to learn their newest collaboration is with the queen of Palm Beach, Lilly Pulitzer.  This much anticipated collection will feature apparel for women, accessories, and other nicknacks.  Click the link below to view some of of the upcoming pieces or look for the collection online and in stores April 19th!

Over the summer I read this incredibly touching memoir by Cheryl Strayed.  It is such a beautiful story of a woman on the road to rediscovery (I love a good rediscovery book).  I saw the movie during the break and my goodness it did not disappoint. The cinematography was beautiful and Reese Witherspoon delivers an incredible performance, the best in her career in my opinion.  Know this though, the movie is rated R and is not classified as the feel good movie of the year. Honestly though what do you expect from a movie about a woman who hates her life so much she has to run to the wilderness?
Getting into shape seems to always be the number one new year's resolution on everyone's list.  Where the heck do you even start though!?  Most people dive head first without the right tools and tend to give up.  A good friend of mine introduced me to the amazing website  On the website you can customize your plan for the type of results you want to achieve and it generates a step by step plan for you.  Last year I tried the plan by Jamie Eason and I recommend it for anyone looking to get into shape this year.  Her program features a twelve week program equipped with videos, step by step instructions, and even a diet plan!
