Feminine, Felt, and Floral

Hat:  Target ~ Dress:  Consigned ~ Shoes:  Talbots ~ Ring:  David Yurman

Anyone that knows me knows that I like a good deal, which is why I never dismiss consignment shops!  There are so many treasures to be found in consignment shops, looking is half the fun!  I have recently discovered a newer place in Hendersonville called Bloom.  It is located right off of Stadium drive and carries an assortment of women's clothing from J.Crew to Tory Burch.  I found this fun floral dress there for $30!  I love it because it is an easy dress to transition into the fall!  If you are in town and need a new wardrobe without busting your budget Bloom is your place to go.

I absolutely LOVE my felt hat, and I love putting it with outfits any chance I get (even if I do get called Pharell).  I thought it would be a nice touched to this very feminine dress.  I want so desperately to throw on a pair of riding boots with it but I am restraining for now. I can promise you this dress will return for the fall, I suppose sandals will have to do for now.  I hope all of you are having a wonderful and blessed week!

Book Worm

During the hustle and bustle of the school year, finding time to read for pleasure is a bit of a challenge.  When I am assigned to read fifteen chapters of The World's Oldest, Longest, Monotonous Book in one night, I find it hard to pick up literature of my own choosing.  So that is why every summer I make it my mission to read as many books as I can.  One summer, no joke, I sat and read the entire Harry Potter series in one month.  I think it's safe to say I didn't get much of a tan that summer.  Reading is probably one of my favorite hobbies.  Seriously there is nothing better then leaving your world behind just for a moment and becoming completely immersed in adventure.  Although school will be here before we know it, there is still time to start one last book!  I have picked a few of my favorite's that I've read recently, enjoy!

In The Land of Kale and Birkenstocks

I am home safe and sound but I'd be lying if I told you I'm not still California dreaming.  Okay that was lame...but seriously Los Angeles was amazing!  This year I've decided I need to adventure out more and see more of this beautiful world we live in.  As you may know I went to Italy in March and that fueled my travel bug to see more and more.  I went to New Orleans in May and then begged and begged my parents for a plane ticket for my birthday to California.  My annoying self paid off and last week I traveled across this great country to stay with my brother for five days.

I was still on Nashville time so my day started at about six thirty a.m. their time and I passed out around nine thirty every night.  While Alex was snoozing I tip toed off by myself most mornings.  He lives in this adorable part of the city surrounded by boutiques and quaint coffee shops.  I walked to Intelligensia nearly every morning where I enjoyed an americano and a blueberry scone.  By the time Alex woke up I was ready for the day

The first day we were typical tourists.  I saw all the big LA things such as Hollywood Boulevard, The Chinese Theater, Beverly Hills, and all around the city of angels.  The second day we met up with some friends at the Melrose Trading Post, which is this huge flea market. We shopped around for a bit and then went with our friends to adopt their new puppy!  After picking the perfect pup out, and he is super cute, we went to The Grove to do more shopping and to have lunch.  Later that evening we went to watch some improv comedy but the line was too long so we opted for sushi instead, where I saw my first celebrity of my trip.

Monday Alex and I traveled to El Segundo to have lunch with one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Mara Ferreira.  We ate at The Veggie Grill, my new favorite place by the way, and talked fashion.  Mara was so sweet and I was sad to say goodbye.  After our lunch Alex and I spent the rest of the day at Santa Monica Beach.  We played in the water, soaked up some sun, and ate some very yummy fruit.  I can still hear the man yelling, "Mango, Mango, Mango, Mango".  When the beach winds became too cold we walked up a few blocks and strolled in and out of stores and found a little pizza place for dinner.  After dinner we found ourselves on the pier and watched the sunset.

On my last day we woke early and drove up to Griffith Park where we could see almost all of Los Angeles. We walked around and explored the park and the observatory and then left to go hiking.  We hiked Runyon Canyon and Alex is a little bit better of a hiker than me.  When I say a little bit I mean a lot actually.  The trail was a ninety degree challenge but once we reached the top it was all worth it! We went back to his apartment, showered, and had tofu dogs and corn for lunch (one of my favs).  We then found this adorable neighborhood where I came across 'Lette Macaron, where I spent way too much money on macarons.  We shopped a bit more and then met up with our friends for some stand up.  Brent Weinbach preformed and man was he hilarious.  I won't give anything away, all I'm going to say is you need to look him up.  After the show we went to this amazing Vegan restaurant where I finally tried Kale!  We said our goodbye's and went back to the apartment to pack up.  Alex was flying out to NYC the same day so we caught a cab together in the morning and said our goodbyes at LAX.  Los Angeles you were good to me, maybe one day I will return to the land of kale and birkenstocks.

Our Day trip to Santa Monica Beach
Fresh fruit on the beach!
Sunset on the pier

The incredible view from the roof of Alex's building.  I may or may not have snuck up there to sip coffee and eat a scone a morning or two.  Also this is the best french toast I've ever had.

After hiking Runyon Canyon
The Hollywood sign viewed from Griffith Park
Brent Weinbach doing stand up at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre.  This crazy overwhelming book store where I purchased Funny Face
Heaven on Earth, AKA 'Lette Macarons.  They only sell macarons...I was so happy.

Travel Tee

Top:  J.Crew Factory ~ Shorts:  J.Crew Factory ~ Necklace:  Dillard's ~ Shoes:  J.Crew Factory ~ Lipstick:  NYX

I usually try to always post on a Thursday, but this week has just been busy!  Between packing for California and work I never really could find time to just sit and write.  I’m actually sitting on the plane typing this!  Next week’s post will be all about my trip, so get excited to read about some adventures in Los Angeles!

I saw this cute tee a few weeks ago at my local J.Crew and just had to have it!  This year I’ve been very fortunate to be able to travel to new places, so I felt I needed it! I bought matching periwinkle shorts last summer that I knew would go perfectly and finished with orange accents on my lips and with my shoes!  I hope you all are having a wonderful and blessed week, I know I am!

Still The Girl With a Curly Q On Top

Romper:  Forever 21 ~ Converse:  T.J. Maxx

"Twenty years ago today, I laid in my hospital bed waiting for you to arrive, and finally, after many hours of labor, at 4:15 you were born.  The doctors fixed your thick dark hair up into a curly Q on top of your head and placed you in my arms.  And I was so In love...".

My mother tells me this story every year, and I can't believe the time has come for her to tell it again!  I can't even believe my birthday is already here, When did it become okay for me to turn twenty!?  Time just keeps on running away from me and I see that very clearly as I write this post. This past year has been such a blessed one filled with so many memories.  From being a terrified doe eye freshman to where I am today, I have come a long way!  Snow days, new friends, blog posts, family gatherings, practical jokes are just a few of the many memories I have been blessed with in my nineteenth year.  I've picked some of my favorites to share with you below.  I am so thankful for all of the people in my life that make me feel so special, and for those that encourage me to be the best I can be.  Today doesn't feel any different from yesterday, but I am ending an era and beginning a new one.  I am excited for my twenties, I think I have been my whole life.

I picked this romper outfit for my birthday post because, as cheesy as it may sound, I wanted it to show some significance.  Yes I am leaving my teens, but I don't think I'll ever grow up.  There is a part of me that wants to always be happy, young, and fearless and I will carry that with me into the next chapter of my life.  God has blessed me so much these past nineteen years and I am excited to see what unravels in the next few.  I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day!

Friendship and Freedom

Me-  Dress:  Mod Cloth ~ Sunnies:  Ray Ban ~ Hat: Target
Caroline-  Dress:  American Rag Collection  ~ Top:  The Impeccable Pig  ~ Shoes:  Target
Earrings:  The Impeccable Pig

And once again ladies and gentleman it is my favorite time of the year!  Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday, not just because that means my birthday is almost here, but because of the connection everyone feels towards one another.  There is something so magical about Independence day that turns this country into one big ball of pride, and I love that.  I love to travel and I love learning about different cultures but I am also so stinking proud to call The USA my home.  I am so incredibly grateful that I live in a country that allows me to run a blog like this and that I can go about my everyday with out fear.  I am so thankful for the men and women who have served to make this country the free land that it is today.  God Bless America.

On top of freedom, friendship is something I am so thankful for.  This shoot was especially fun because I had my fashionable and witty best friend Caroline join me.  Care and I met in a ballet class a million years ago and we joke because we never actually talked to each other until the end of the year.  I think we just woke up one day and decided, "yeah she's cool I'll be friends with her now".  I complimented her awesome french style earrings during a class right before our end of the year recital and we were instant friends.  Unfortunately Care quit dance and we didn't go to the same school or the same church, but some how we made our friendship work.  After years of after school trips to Target, many adventures in Nashville, and one too many trashy TV shows (always while eating baked goods) Caroline still remains my dearest friend.  Not only has she helped me through some of the toughest times in my life, but she has kept me strong in my faith with The Lord.  Caroline studies Nursing at Belmont University. In her free time she works at The Impeccable Pig (the cutest boutique in Nashville) and still finds time to be the worlds most adorable couple with her boo Steven.

For this shoot I really wanted to do something that really embodied your typical Fourth of July and of course picnic style came to mind.  I found this great vintage dress online at Modcloth and fell in love with the fun table cloth pattern and classic fit.  I added simple accents of gold careful not to over do the whole look.  With Caroline I really just let her decide what she wanted to wear.  All the guidelines I gave her were that it needed to be patriotic and it needed to reflect her personal style.  Caroline and I joke that we have very different styles.  She tends to wear lots of florals and carries a bit of a boho feel to every outfit.  I on the other hand tend to gravitate toward classic cuts and preppy patterns (although I have been branching out).  We decided it would be fun to wear outfits for the shoot that reflected our personal styles, and I think we did a pretty good job.

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!  I hope you all stuff your faces with hot dogs (or tofu dogs like me) and spend this weekend with the ones you love.  Be thankful for the Country we live in, and be grateful for the friendships in your life.  I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day.
