Spring Fever

The Tulle Midi Skirt ~ The Midi Skirt

Both feminine and classic the midi skirt is making a huge come back this season.  A pastel midi pairs nicely with neutrals, like sand and charcoal, and makes a classic look even sharper with a horizontal stripe on top.  Tulle is no longer just for your costume box.  The playful fabric is making its way onto several pieces this season, and it makes for a very feminine and charming look.

The Orange Lip

To me this is probably the most exciting trend this season.  Mostly because orange lipstick is one of my go to's and I feel so ahead of the game!  I personally feel like an outfit is not complete with out the proper lip color, and orange is so fun to play with!  Tan or pale the color looks phenomenal on any skin tone and complements any outfit with cooler hues like powder blue.  You better believe if I am wearing my chambray shirt, then I sure as heck will be wearing orange as well!  My favorite lipstick is "Indie Flick" Matte by NYX.  Stays on very well and the color is the perfect combination of sass and class.

The Lace-up Heel

I have to be honest here, when I first saw these shoes I was not really on board.  I think they were just a little too edgy for my taste, but the more i've seen them the more I've grown to love them!  I think they are a really nice change for your typical spring/summer heel.  These look so chic with a pair of skinny jeans or even your favorite sun dress!  Don't be afraid to put your wedges aside this spring and branch out!

The Wide Leg Jean

Oh man do I love a classic wide leg jean!  There is something so bold and chic about them, I think thats why this pant is such a reoccurring trend.  dress is down during the day (with a navy and white stripped top and sun hat) for a casual nautical look, or wear them dressier at night with wedges and a lace top.  I love this lace peplum top from Cabi, I think the peplum combined with the lace adds such a soft feminine touch.

Whether you like the trends this year or not the greatest advice I could give to anyone is to stay true to your style.  I personally feel pearls and gingham are appropriate for every season and I don't always agree with trends (ah hello Birkenstocks are coming back!).  Wear what makes you you and you will always be fashionable.  Confidence never goes out of style.  Remember that when you feel good you look good!

This Is What Dreams Are Made Of

Dress:  Zara ~ Shoes:  Steve Madden ~ Bag:  Coach ~ Hat: market in tuscany
Necklace:  Francesca's Collections

When I came to Italy, one of my shopping goals was to find a dress that would forever be my Italy dress.  It had to be classic and yet unique, and I think I did a pretty good job of finding it!  This dress, from Zara, is different than anything I would ever wear mainly because of the cut outs on the bodice, but I thought to myself when in Rome!  Super cheesy, but I feel like it reflects my entire Italian adventure.  classic and yet a touch of adventure.

Our last stop on our adventure was in Rome.  We toured all of the main sights including the colosseum, The Vatican city (Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basilica), The Pantheon, and my favorite The Trevi Fountain.  The Trevi was not just my favorite because I felt like Lizzie  Mcquire for just a second, but if you somehow manage to block out the thousands of people that flock there The Trevi is a truly magical sight.  It's a combination of the culture, structure, and Euros cast away in hopes of true love that make this fountain so breathtaking.  Rome was the perfect ending to a perfect trip.  My time spent in Italy was probably the best week of my life, and it has opened my eyes to so many possibilities.  I am ready to explore this big beautiful world, and I plan on doing so in the future.  But until then I will remain a college kid dreaming of the romantic Trevi, Venice's rosy hues, and Tuscany's breath taking sunset.

Tuscany Has My Heart

Top:  Old Navy ~ Boots:  Sam Edelman ~ Jacket:  Old Navy ~ Bag:  Coach ~ Jeans:  Old Navy  Sunnies:  Ray Ban

On our fifth day we took a tour of Tuscany, and this was by far my favorite day!  A day filled with food, wine, shopping, and beautiful scenery, what more could you ask for?  We visited the cities of San Gimignano, Siena, and Monteriggioni.

San Gimignano was the first we visited and boy was it cute!  Alex and I explored the little town and came across so many cute shops and even a local flea market!  I bought a precious handmade apron that has tulips all over it, and Alex bought himself some new leather shoes!  San Gimignano is surrounded by the country side so every spot you turn is a picture perfect moment.  It also has a torture museum!  Something for everyone I guess haha.  From there we left for a vineyard in the Chianti region of Tuscany for our lunch/wine tasting.  We arrived at this amazing vineyard on top of a hill and toured the facility where we learned all about the wine process there.  Here's a little fact:  only a true Chianti wine is marked by the symbolic black rooster on the label.  So anything else beware!  After our tour we sat down for a four course meal and a variety of wines that complemented each food.  Every bit was so wonderful we didn't waste even a drop or a crumb!  From the vineyard we moved on to the city of Siena.  Siena was by far the most interesting!  It was like a combination of Florence and San Gimignano.  lots of high end shopping but still a smaller town feel.  Twice a year the city puts on a traditional mediaeval horse race called The Palio.  The event is attended by thousands and is very dangerous!  Like most cities are divided up into counties, Siena is divided up into contrades.  In Siena there are seventeen, and when the Palio events happen each contrade competes to be the winning district.

Our last destination of our tour was this little town called Monteriggioni.  We arrived right as the sun was beginning to set, and so Alex and I raced to the edge of town to get the best view.  When we reached the edge all we found was a wall, so we scanned it for stairs but when we found some of course they were gated off, but that didn't stop us.  I threw my things over the gate and scaled the fence.  After many failed attempts we made it (illegally) on top of the wall, and my was it worth it.  Magical doesn't even begin to describe the view.  The sunlight danced across the valley, highlighting every perfection Tuscany had to offer.  Hues of pink, yellow, and blue all intertwining to make one beautiful image of color.  Before the sun fully left us Alex and I climbed off of the wall and found a quiet vineyard filled with lush green grass to sit and watch the day end.  We sat in complete silence as we watched the rays sink beneath the mountains, casting all that they had left upon the perfectly sculpted landscape.  Time stopped and in that moment I was just a girl sitting without a problem in the world, watching the worlds beauty blossom before me.
