The Bandana

Top: J.Crew ~ Shoes: Old Navy ~ Jeans: J.Crew ~ Scarf: Vintage ~ Earrings: & Other Stories

I love love LOVE that the bandana made a comeback last year. I feel like you can make any outfit classier by adding one. I especially love it when I get to pattern mix with them! I found this scarf in a little vintage shop when I was in Amsterdam in December, and the floral details pair perfectly with my favorite striped tee. This combo screams spring to me, and now that I'm in California it is easy to forget that it is only February!

This week was Valentine's Day, and as tradition I always bake my favorite cookies (white chocolate cranberry oatmeal). You can find the recipe on my blog here. They were delicious, but the real highlight of my week was exploring LA with some old friends of mine from Tennessee. Shout out to Kyra for being a friend and stopping somewhere in the middle of The Hollywood Hills for this photoshoot. In reality this was probably Reese Witherspoon's house...casual day in LA.

California Dreamin'

Dress: The Moon ~ Necklace: J.Crew ~ Shoes: Old Navy

Goodness Gracious, I can't even believe it's already my third week in California! For those of you that might be reading my blog for the first time in a while, I moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of January. This year has brought me a lot of transition so far, and I don't expect things to slow down any time soon. That has frustrated me, but I'm learning that's just the phase of life I'm in. Even though I may not know where my career will take me or what city I will live in next, I'm choosing to be okay with not knowing. What I do know is that Pasadena is one beautiful city, it takes me 20 minutes to walk to my new go to coffee shop, and I actually don't need to wash my hair everyday thanks to California's climate. These new discoveries are the things that are starting to build  a new normal for me, and for right now that's good enough for me.

I love a good fit and flare dress, especially with a fun pattern. Another great thing about California is that it is 70 degrees and sunny in January, and everyday is a dress day if I want it to be! I found this dress at a vintage inspired boutique here in Pasadena, and I've already managed to wear it twice! The first I wore it with an oversized cardigan to the premiere of John Early and Kate Berlant's hilarious video series  555, I highly recommend looking them up if you haven't already. The second time I wore it as pictured for an afternoon of running errands with my brother. Very versatile and extremely comfortable, this dress is becoming my new favorite!

Class of 2016

Top: J.Crew ~ Pants: J.Crew ~ Shoes: Steve Madden ~ Lipstick: Perfect Red by NYX

When deciding upon which dress I would wear to graduation it hit me that I would not wear a dress, but an OUTFIT. These have been some of the most creative years of my life, so why would I settle for any old dress? I tried on this black lace pant and top set at J.Crew and just knew it was perfect. The lace is so detailed and elegant, it is perfect for any holiday party you my be attending this year! The wonderful part about this set is that...well it's a set! I've worn the top with light jeans and a flowy sweater, and I've worn the pants with a bright sweater tucked in and a jean jacket over top. These pieces are incredibly versatile, and can easily be dressed up or down.

My time in college, and Chattanooga are all coming to an end and that my friends is cause for much reflection. If you know me at all, then you know I am an incredibly sentimental person. I subconsciously find meaning in everything, and you better believe that part of my brain has been buzzing as I tie up my time in college in a pretty bow. I could sit here and write paragraph after paragraph detailing each wonderful memory, but that is why I have a journal. I'll put it simply and say I'm grateful for all of it. Every lecture, friendship, organization, laugh, cry, and awkward moment (and there were many of those). All of these are memories now; some will fade, but some I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I have been so incredibly blessed with a such a wonderful community in Chattanooga, and I will cherish that forever.

Phew, man I told you that might get sappy. So you may be asking yourself, "What's next for ole Mollie Anna?", and I'm so glad you asked! Sunday I leave for Europe for three weeks to travel with my dear friend Courtney, but don't worry I will blog every adventure we encounter. When I return in January I will be heading out west...(wait for it)...and moving to California! This move is not permanent, but my wonderful brother has oh so graciously opened his home to me as I process postgrad life. I hope in this time to process these past four years, and figure out what's next! Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! I wish you all the best, and I'll see you in the New Year!

Pumpkin Muffins

And just like that October is over, and it always amazes me how quickly my favorite month comes and goes. Pumpkin will still be around a little longer, so saying goodbye to October isn't all sad. This weekend I came across this simple recipe for pumpkin muffins from the blog Natural Chow, and I thought I'd share it with all of you!

Ingredients

  • 1¾ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (15 oz) can pure pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Line a muffin pan with paper liners or grease with nonstick spray. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices. Whisk to combine and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the eggs, pumpkin puree, (melted) coconut oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and fold to combine. The batter will be thick.
  4. Using an ice cream scoop, scoop the batter into the prepared muffin pan.
  5. Bake for 22-24 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before removing the muffins from the pan. Serve.

A Sweet Note

Dress: Belle Rive Boutique ~ Jacket: J.Crew Factory ~ Shoes: Old Navy
Necklace: Vintage Sunnies: Anthropologie ~ Bag: J.Crew

Fall in the south is all about layering. In one day it is actually possible to see frost in the morning, and get a tan on your lunch break. That's when the element of layering comes in handy. This jean jacket has been a staple in my closet for the past three years, and for good reason. It is easy to throw on over a dress or even pair with shorts. It doesn't matter what the weather will throw at me as long as I have this trusty jacket. Cardigans and even blanket scarves are also great options that go with every outfit! This dress is from one of my favorite boutiques in Chattanooga. They always have the most unique options, and they are pretty reasonably priced too! If you live in or around Chattanooga, then make sure you give my friends at Belle Rive Boutique a visit!

October has been quite the busy month! Between school and preparing for graduation, my schedule has been a crazy one. I'm really excited to share with you all that I will be going back to Europe after graduation! My good friend Courtney and I will be backpacking for about three weeks, and I couldn't be more excited! This time in my life has been extremely stressful, so it is nice to have a goal to work towards. I'm sad my time in college is coming to an end, but at least it will end on a very sweet note.
